Being a dancer and classical pianist is not easy. There came a time when I had to choose. So I gave up the piano. Then there came another time when I realized I could do both if my sole motivation was love for what I do. So I started playing the piano again. Then I stopped again. Then I started again. But this time, instead of going back to Bach, Chopin, and Scriabin, I turned to Star Trek. I have always been drawn to that beautiful flute melody that Captain Picard taught himself while experiencing another lifetime as Kamin in "The Inner Light." I started playing around with this touching tune and it soon became my passion. Before long, I had composed five variations. Fellow Trekkers will recognize little bits of Star Trek that I sneaked into each one. Even non-Trekkies are moved by this pure, direct-to-the-heart wordless song. Here is my tribute to a captain and a series that means so much to me. All hail the god of Trek!

A Tribute to Captain Picard, The Inner Light Variations.

You could say we are slightly off topic here but this is composed by Shamira, a bellydancer who also happens to be a pianist.

I love piano music and this is fabulous. I also love to watch people play the piano, you know how they close their eyes and let their fingers run the keys "MAGIC" if you ask me. If you were lucky enough to go to her "Sensuous Workout 2 Pure Technique" DVD release party, you would have received this CD as a complimentary gift. If you are a fan of Star Trek then you'll recognize pieces of Captain Picard's beautiful flute music in these piano pieces Shamira composed, 5 in all (not long enough, if you ask me).

The Inner Light: These compositions are just beautiful. You don't have to be a Star Trek fan or know the episode to appreciate it. But since I am a fan and do know the episode (I always liked that haunting melody also) I can appreciate it even more. This CD goes with my classical music collection. Shamira, you are an extremely talented person! Glad you could find time for both dance and music.
