Shamira's Tips - How to move your hips like Shakira


Q: How do I get my hips to move like in Shakira's video "Hips Don't Lie" ??? Any advice? Can you do what she does in the beginning of the video? Where she moves her hips from side to side?


A: Yes, I call that the "Maya" move. Try to follow these instructions exactly, step by step.

1- Stand with your feet together, heels flat.

2- Lift your right heel as high as you can and push your right hip up as high as it will go.

3- With your heel still lifted and your hip lifted, push your right hip out to the side. If you also push the ball of your foot into the floor, that can help. OK, so your right hip is now UP and OUT (and your heel is still up).

4- Now lower your heel and lower your hip DOWN

5- Now lift your left heel and do the same thing on the left side. UP, OUT, DOWN.

6- OK, once you can do it on each side, now smooth it out. As you lower one heel back down, at the same time start lifting the other side. Just remember: UP, OUT, DOWN.

A tip: when you're pushing your hip OUT to the side, you can lean slightly away from it with your upper body. In other words, when you are pushing out to the right with your hip, lean slightly away to the left. You don't have to, but it will exaggerate the movement, making it look bigger and more dramatic.

Practice this a million times until your body gets it. I know you can do it!!
