Shamira's Tips - First Performance Nervousness

Q: I have first-performance nervousness. Any tips you can give me to help?

A: Visualize yourself dancing from your heart, not from your ego. No need to worry if they will like you. Love yourself and love them and that is all you will need. What is your purpose? Think about making your audience feel good and happy. And of course practice your moves so that you flow and are all warmed up physically.

Keep it simple, you don't have to be fancy. Draw things out. Let the beauty of the movements speak for themselves. You don't have to keep a tight control on them, let them breathe. Flow. TAKE YOUR TIME. You don't have to do a million different moves. Repeat things so that YOU become one with the movement and that, more than anything else, will mesmermize the audience and draw them in in a good way.

One last thing. I suggest that if you are going to be doing something choreographed, practice "forgetting" the steps here and there and have a couple of backup steps that you can fall into, like a holding pattern, until you can remember where you are. This way you will never panic if you forget where you are.
