Shamira's Tips - "Finding" a Larger Belly Quiver
Q: I "found" my belly quiver about 1 year ago, (I began the love of belly dance two years ago this spring. I attend classes about 3-4 times a week with various instructors and I try to attend workshops throughout the year), I need help to create a larger quiver. It has been suggested to rest a heavy book on the diaphragm area and try to quiver it off to strengthen the muscle. Any other helpful tips? - Connie
A: Hi Connie, Thanks for writing and I hope I can help. That is a tough one, but let me suggest something that MIGHT help. This is kind of bizarre and don't ask me how I discovered this trick, because I don't know. Try exhaling all of the air out of your lungs and hold your breath with all the air out. Then start the quiver, still holding your breath. Then slowly inhale as you're doing the quiver. I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but it worked for me, so hopefully it will work for you. I'd love to know! Of course, as with any difficult move, you have to practice it until you "find" it, and obviously you know what that means. Please keep me posted!
Follow-up from Connie: Thank you! I've already tried your advice and it appears that it does in fact help to increase the intensity and size of the flutter as well as it remaining consistent. I'll keep practicing the tip you gave me! Maybe I'll be able to get the audience to "ahhhh" over it some day! Thank you again!
